A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.” Proverbs 25:26
“Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! For so did their fathers to the false prophets.” Luke 6:26
Father and Creator of heaven and earth, and all that is therein we ask for Your wisdom, knowledge, and understanding in Your word, will, and way You work in us, and in others. We desire to always walk with You and glorify Your name.
Forgive our weakness in standing before men of power and authority when we need to be bold in Your word, to speak all that You have spoken. May we never bow before evil and wicked men or women. Forgive us also when we have sought to be liked and approved by others before bringing honor to Your holy name; and have failed to lift up Jesus Christ.
We ask for boldness in Your word no matter before whom we may be standing, to speak it with Your power and authority. May we, like Paul the apostle, live with this in our heart, soul, and mind; “…To know nothing, except Jesus Christ and Him crucified” and buried and raised to life forever. For life eternal is found only through faith in His finished work on the cross of Calvary. Amen.
“Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; and that from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3:12-15 (KJB)
Christians who live godly lives will suffer persecution. Have you ever been laughed at because of the simplicity of your faith in Christ, the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ to cleanse, to heal, to redeem, and get us into the presence of Holy God? Have you ever been threatened for your faith in Him? How about beaten and maybe left for dead?
Evil abounds in this world. Anyone who has eyes and ears knows there is evil in this world; and it is in the hearts of the people who live on this planet. As Christians we must guard our own hearts and minds through the word of God and prayer.
The Apostle tells us that “Evil men and seducers shall become worse and worse…” The evil ones are not only those who would do us physical harm; but also those who would do us spiritual harm by teaching lies, deceiving, and themselves being deceived.
So what do we do when evil surrounds us?
- Remember the things you have been taught from Scripture;
- Continue in those things applying them to your life, living for Jesus Christ and standing on His word;
- Always remember that those teachings you have learned in the word are the words of wisdom and for your salvation;
- There is absolutely no instruction to identify (to participate) with the world around us.
Always remember the gospel – the good news is – that Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried and He rose again.
“Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man; which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.” Psalm 140:1-2 (KJV)
There is evil all around us. It would not at all be difficult to name evil. I think I have defined “evil” before here, and I will do it again. Evil is what God says is evil; not what man calls evil. Men and women today call evil what God says is good; and call good what God says is evil (Isaiah 5:20).
Deliver us from evil is what Jesus taught us to pray in Matthew 6:13. There are evil people who seek to destroy all that is good, godly, righteous, and holy. They seek to destroy you and me who follow the Lord Jesus Christ.
There are many who care nothing for the life of another. Whether it is the unborn in the womb of the mother; or the elderly individual in a nursing home; their lives, to the unloving, the uncaring, the hateful, evil men and women are worthless, and of no further benefit to society.
As Christians we can confront the evil by doing right, doing good anyway. “Overcome evil with good”, said the apostle Paul (Romans 12:21).
The greatest deliverance from evil was the day Jesus became my sins and yours. He bore our sins, died for us on the cross, was buried, and bodily arose from that grave. Victory over sin, death, and evil. It is ours through faith in Him.
