Jesus Is The Son Of God

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. This is He of whom I said, ‘After me cometh a Man which is preferred before me:’ for He was before me.  And I knew Him not: but that He should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.” And John bare record, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon Him.  And I knew Him not: but He that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, ‘Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, the same is He which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.  And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
John 1:29-34

There seems to be a number of people who do not believe that Jesus is the Son of God and since He is the Son of God, that He is also God the Son.  I know that sounds odd maybe, but it is the truth.

This is one of those things that will be revealed to you by the Holy Spirit, and no other way.  Does it make a difference if you do not believe that?  It seems to me that the Bible bears that out quite clearly even with Jesus saying to Peter,  “Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven”  (Matthew 16:17).  This was after Jesus had questioned His disciples concerning who people thought He is.  Peter said, “You are the Christ (Messiah), the Son of the Living  God” (Matthew 16:16).  Most Jewish religious leaders believed the Messiah was coming, but did not recognize Him when He came.  They also believed the Messiah to be Deity.  This Man Jesus is the Incarnation of God.

That is a hill that I stand on, and die for as well.  John the Baptist witnessed the Holy Spirit coming on Jesus as He ascended out of the baptismal waters, in the form of a dove, and heard the Father said from heaven, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”  So I think it best to believe the word of God over the deniers of the truth of who Jesus really is.

Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God; and He is God the Son.  This was Peter’s confession, It is also my confession and conviction.  What is your confession concerning the Deity of Jesus the Christ of God?

Believe the Testimony

“And after eight days again His disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, ‘Peace unto you.’ Then saith He to Thomas, ‘Reach hither thy finger, and behold My hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust into My side: and be not faithless, but believing.’ And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.  Jesus saith unto him, ‘Thomas, because thou hast seen Me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and have believed.’
And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book: but these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name.”  John 20:26-31  (KJB)

Thomas had said, “Except I see the print of the nails in His hands, and put my fingers into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into His side I will not believe” (v. 25). Now Jesus appears in the midst of the disciples, and it appears that Thomas does not avail himself of that opportunity.

It does not say it in the text, but I can almost see Thomas as he said, “My Lord and my God”, bowing on his face before Jesus.  I say that because I am pretty certain that when I see the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ that will be my response.

Jesus gives a rebuke to Thomas, saying to him, “…Because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are they that have not seen, and have believed.”

Who are these folks who have not seen yet believed?

It is all those who have believed since that day following the ascension of Jesus up to the Father.  It is you.  It is me.  We have not yet seen the resurrected Jesus, but we have Believed the Testimony of the disciples/apostles, and that is because of those who were generations before us who also believed the testimony.

The testimony of Scripture.  The testimony of the Gospels.  The testimony of the apostles, and all who followed them.  Have you heard them and believed?

Our Faith

“Whosoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loves Him that begat loves him also that is begotten of Him.  By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep His commandments.  For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not grievous.  For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith.  Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God?  1 John 5:1-5

Faith is a much used word.  “You can accomplish anything, if you have faith”.  Many of us have heard such a phrase, maybe with a few variations.  That is in fact, having faith in faith.  It is not faith that accomplishes anything.

Let us look at the verses above…

  1.  Believing that Jesus is the Christ, one is born of God;
  2.  The ones who believe Him, having faith in Him keep His commandments, loving the children of God;
  3.  Who ever is born of God overcomes the world system, the devil; which is out to do evil, and tries to destroy all that is good and godly;
  4.  It is Our Faith in Christ Jesus that overcomes the world, the works of the flesh, and the devil.

Those who love Him keep His commandments.  These are the ones who have the faith that overcomes the world.
